Recycling on the North Shore PDF Print E-mail

The NSRP offers five main services to North Shore residents - single-family curbside recycling, multi-family curbside recycling, yard trimmings collection for single-family homes (administered by the NSRP but operated by the three municipalities on the North Shore), a Recycling Drop-off Depot and community education programs. Our philosophy is to offer comprehensive, cost-effective recycling services to our residents, and to only collect those materials which have a stable, guaranteed market into which to sell the materials.

Our Mission: To make conservation second nature on the North Shore by moving the community from environmental awareness to sustainable action.

While recycling is important, we realize it's only part of the solution. There's a lot we can all do to reduce the amount of garbage we have to deal with in the first place. How? By considering the other three Rs - Reduce, Reuse and Rethink. Some ideas? Avoid excess packaging and ask the question, "Do I really need this item?". When you do buy something, make sure it's of good quality and that it is recyclable and reusable. Most importantly, buy products made with recycled materials when possible. We'll be posting more on this topic over the summer.  In the meantime, Metro Vancouver maintains resources you may find helpful.

There are countless ways to reduce your impact, from reducing your use of energy by riding a bike to work and washing clothes in cold water to refusing excess packaging and recycling all your paper - call the NSRP for some practical and useful tips, check out our links page or order some of our free resources.
